The first written record of Želechovice nad Dřevnicí dates from 1261, when part of the village was donated to the newly founded monastery in Vizovice. Until 2008, Želechovice nad Dřevnicí was part of Zlín; following a local referendum, it has been an independent municipality since 1 January 2009. The Church of St Peter and St Paul in Želechovice nad Dřevnicí is a Gothic building dating from around 1400 and was later rebuilt in the Baroque style. The local Sokol hall hosts theatre performances, concerts and balls.
