Slušovice lies on the Dřevnice River, about 10 km north-east of Zlín, at the foot of the Hostýn and Vizovice Hills. The first written mention of Slušovice dates from 1261. The municipality regained town status on 30 May 1996.

The parish church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist in the town centre was built between 1812 and 1815. Its Gothic predecessor stood on the site of today's cemetery. The racecourse has a tradition dating back to 1981, and the town says its banked track is the largest in Moravia. A golf course lies inside the racecourse and is operated by Derby Golf Club Slušovice.
