Šarovy lies on the slopes of the foothills of the Vizovické vrchy. The village sits in the valley of the Březnice stream. It is about 8 km south of Zlín.

The name Šarov is first recorded in 1360 for both the castle and the village. The village was then owned by a lower noble family from Šarov. The remains of Šarov Castle, dating from the late 13th century and with clearly visible ramparts and ditches, lie about 1.5 km south of the village in the cadastral area of Březolupy. A masonry chapel stands in the village, and the municipal office is also located there.
