Lukoveček lies about 11 km north of Zlín. Following a referendum, it became an independent municipality on 1 January 2001. Before that, it had belonged to Fryšták since 1976.

The first written mention of the village dates to 1480. The Chapel of Our Lady Help of Christians, dating from 1879, stands in the centre. A monument to T. G. Masaryk from 1932 also stands there.
