Kelníky lies on a rise about 20 km south of Zlín.

The first written record of the village dates from 1362. The Chapel of St Zdislava on the village green was established in the 1970s; after an extension in 1997–1998, the bell dating from 1782 has been in use there. The barns and drying house of rural homesteads, together with a house, are protected cultural monuments; stone crosses also stand within the village's cadastral area.
