Kašava lies in the deep valley of the Dřevnice river in the Valašsko region. Kopná, at 674 metres, rises above the surrounding hills. The village is first mentioned in 1440.

The Baroque Church of St Catherine of Alexandria was built in 1745 on the site of an older wooden church, and the municipal library, founded in 1920, is on the ground floor of the Municipal House. Orlovna cultural hall was built in 1929. The educational trail around Kašava, completed in 2013, is 17.5 kilometres long and has 11 stations and 14 Stations of the Cross. Kašava won the national round of the Village of the Year competition in 2016, and the results were announced in Luhačovice.
